I'm currently taking a painting course over at CGMA, and the assignment for this week was to study the works of various masters. In a vain attempt to get my mind off the Cubs' elimination game tonight, I stuck on some tunes and attempted a John Singer Sargent piece. Still a ways to go, but I'm really enjoying this assignment -- the way Sargent makes his strokes loose and pointed is no small feat. Not to mention I'm not usually one for tight, realistic rendering, so this is definitely outside of my comfort zone. I'm learning a lot!
